The Strohmer family are hoteliers with body and soul. In March 1895, Josef Strohmer, the progenitor of this hotelier family was born in Kautzen (Austria). Together with his wife Julia Bartha, he bought the Hotel Europa in Abazia, then in Italy but now part of Croatia. From 1932, he led the hotel for about 14 years.
In 1950, rich in tradition, the Meran Hotel Europa Splendid was bought over by the Strohmer family. After extensive restoration work, the house built in art nouveau style, shone in its former glory. Today, the town hotel is managed by Mr Alfredo Strohmer and his son Alfred.
In 1983 the family acquired the Westend Hotel. The Villa 'Westend' was built in 1890 by the famous architect Pietro Delugan. The building is a master piece reflecting his talent and is considered as one of the most beautiful Meran villas, with a great outdoor design. The 3-star hotel is managed by Mrs Magdalena Strohmer and her son Alexander.
In 2002, the family bought a third hotel, Hotel Garni Aster. This is a small house in the quiet villa suburb of Meran, built in the 70s and only 2 km from the centre of the spa town. It is headed by the daughter of the family, Mrs Gabi Strohmer and her family.
In 1967, Mr Alfredo Strohmer built a holiday resort in the country, in the midst of the Hafling meadows, a place which leaves nothing to be desired.
In the fall of 2009 Alfred Strohmer bought the former Cafè Imperial. Together with his significant ohter Jutta, he worked out the concept for this location. The rooms were to be indiviually designed by renowned artists as homage to Merano's long tradition as a cultural destination.
