Advent, with its perfume of hot, mulled wine and special sweets and biscuits is, without doubt, the most important and intensely emotional seasons of the year.

The Meran Christmas Market, with its eighty gaily decorated stalls, offers an excellent range of gifts and presents, Christmas decorations, traditional ceramic ware and woven items, wood carvings, woollen slippers, toys and typical cakes, biscuits and sweets.

The old town centre of Meran comes to life and the streets and alleyways, shops and town houses glitter with beautiful, traditional-style festive decorations. The shop windows look particularly inviting and that special Christmas atmosphere can be felt everywhere.

From 15th to 17th June 2012 the International street artists festival „Asphaltart“ takes place in the streets of Merano, hundreds of street artists from all over the world will meet in the city centre and transform the streets and squares into a stage of magic moments.

Clowns, performers and artists, musicians and dancers, puppeteers, fire-eaters and acrobats will all gather together in Merano to entertain and enchant audiences as part of the rich and eventful programme of the Street Artist Festival in Merano. This event is organized by the arts society Kallmünz in cooperation with the merchants of the historic centre of Merano and the associations Animativa, Mairania 857 and the Teatro PraTiko theatre.
The eventful festival will be inaugurated on June, 10th with a parade of the circus society Animativa, leading through the most ancient part of town. After this opening ceremony, various artistic groups will perform shows everywhere in the old town of Merano until late in the evening.

In addition to the festival, visitors can get refreshments in the garden of Kallmünz Castle during breaks between performances, and enjoy the musical accompaniment.

Traditional fair with music in the lanes of Merano
The Merano grape festival is one of the most popular harvest celebrations in the country. Every year thousands of locals and guests visit the city at the Passiria river at the end of Octobre to take part in the festival and enjoy its huge supporting programme.


The highlight of this traditional event is the marvellious Sunday pageant (beginning: 2.15 p.m.) that leads through the historic lanes of the city. The colourful pageant which includes beautifuly decorated floats brass bands and locals in costume, moves from the Northern city gate through the entire city and along the largest promenades, and past important historical locations.
The impressive and wide ranging programme of event includes open air music performances from various orchestras, folk groups and folk dance groups, trumpeters and brass bands and local costume guilds, some coming from the neighbouring region of Trentino and as far as Germany, Switzerland.
Lovers of European local traditions and costumes will be enchanted by this traditional fair and enjoy the revelry that takes place every year in the health spa of Merano since 1886.

The Merano WineFestival, which started in 1992 and is one of the most prestigious events in Italy and one of the most elegant in Europe as well as being an important benchmark in worldwide quality products, will take place for the 20th time from 9th to 12th November 2012.

As every year, the most famous and most sought after producers from Italy and all over the world will be taking part in the event. The twentieth birthday will be properly celebrated with the chosen producers presenting their top products!

In July 2012 the Merano health resort will host the MeranoJazz-Festival, a popular jazz music festival. The festival will be held at Kallmünz Castle and attract well known global jazz music performers in the magnificent setting of Merano. There will be four evenings with high class jazz performances held in the summer arena of Kalmünz Castle.

Like every year, the festival will be accompanied by numerous jazz courses, where the best jazz musicians will give tips and tricks for visitors participating in organised workshops.

In the autumn of 2012, the Merano Music Festival will take place for the twenty-seventh time. The symphonic section will once again feature a prominent
cast. Top performers will appear in Merano like Roger Hodgson, London Symphony Orchestra or Gabriela Montero. But the Merano Music Festival is also a multidisciplinary festival. There is a nighttime concert, crossover projects (“Colours of Music”), and  the “Vox Humana” series devoted to vocal music.
