The colour turquoise stands for the clear air and the alpine panorama, red for the city’s Mediterranean vivacity, blue stands for the river Passer, the source of its life, and purple-bordeaux stands for wine and hospitality – these four colours form the logo of this special anniversary that metaphorically represents everything that Merano is celebrating on its 700st birthday.
History in three dimensions
After king Heinrich of Kärnten’s release of the first city laws in June 1317 a lot happened in the “secret capital of South Tyrol”. You’ll get the chance to relive the most exiting episodes of the 700 years of Merano’s history starting from the first settlements to devastating disasters to times of prospect and prosperity. Merge yourself right into the history of this city of cure through three dimensional light and visual effects which are directly projected onto the stage, lounges and even the parquet floor of the city theatre of Merano. The impressions are underlined by music that was especially composed for this thirty minute show.
A insider tip by Boutique & Design Hotel ImperialArt: Watch out when walking through the city. There are 20 walls to be found that show Merano in all its variety, month per month. This action is called (“Speak up-Raus mit der Sprache”). There will be time travels of fashion as well as the city’s soundtrack, guest reports from all over the world and the city’s sportsmanship. You can discover things that won’t be written in any of the guide books.
Seven hundred years – seven concerts
If you think that 700 years of Merano means 700 years of boring history, then you’re absolutely wrong! The “Ensemble Conductus” came up with a very special idea to make 2017 even a musical anniversary: one concert representing one century – each one is defined by the musical, artistic and political concepts of one specific epoch. Experience the persecution of witches, the romantic age and even the rise of the World Wide Web represented by a piece of unique sounds. And the best thing about the concerts is: There is no entrance fee!
A shopping tip by Boutique & Design Hotel Imperial Art: the South Tyrolean manufacturer of bags “olle Tog” has designed purses, bags and accessories especially for 700 years of Merano using modern and historic photographs of the city of cure. These fashionable and unique items can be purchased right over the corner of our Design Hotel Imperial Art.
(His)stories of Art
As the cultural heart of South Tyrol, Merano gives art a high value; that’s why it can’t be left out in the 700xM. There is a special exhibition in the museum Palais Mamming, in a 5 minutes walking distance from Boutique and Design Hotel Imperial Art: the artist Paolo Quaresima created a series of figurative presentations in his “Imago” for which he has been using exclusively faces from Merano as models. Those leave traces and stories of the city’s historical personalities and therefore are a creative documentation of Merano’s present.
A souvenir tip by Boutique & Design Hotel ImperialArt: The brewery Forst and the winery Meran Burggräfler have created a culinary anniversary special together. The beer Forst Kronen and the red wine Meraner as well as Weißburgunder – all three of them especially bottled for this occasion and labelled with an anniversary etiquette – can not only satisfy your thirst after historical and cultural explorations, but are also a brilliant and exclusive souvenir of Merano.
