Every year in winter we expect with pleasant anticipation the beautiful Christmas markets of South Tyrol. Actually the star of all the delicious delicacy is the traditional brewed mulled wine, which everybody loves. No Christmas market would be the same without the special and hot drink, who makes the freezing cold bearable. He warms your fingertips and also your heart. The combination of festive spices like cinnamon and cloves, the sweet taste and the selected wine, assorted together and served hot in a traditional cup of the Merano Christmas market, transforms the mulled wine in a for years retained Tradition.
The mulled wine looks back to a long career: already the old romans, which spiced their wine and drank it cold, also to the medieval century, where hot, spiced wine was used as a medicine. Until today the traditional mulled wine is well known as a little preciousness, which delights every cold winter.
750 ml South Tyrolean red wine or white wine
2 tablespoons of sugar
½ cinnamon stick
peel of ¼ orange (untreated) for red wine
peel of ¼ lemon (untreated) for white wine
Pour the wine into a saucepan, add sugar, orange peel and spices and heat almost to boiling point. Remove the cinnamon and cloves before serving.
